Hong Kong’s patent system includes standard patents (generally based on designated earlier filings), short-term patents, and registered designs for product appearance.
Standard patent
Standard patents are typically pursued in stages, based on a designated patent application (for example with CNIPA, EPO or UKIPO pathways historically used), followed by corresponding requests in Hong Kong within prescribed periods after formalities / grant publication.
Short-term patent
Short-term patents can be filed more directly in Hong Kong but generally require a search report from a recognised authority.
Registered designs
Design registration can help prevent others from making, importing, using, selling or hiring products embodying the registered appearance (shape, pattern, ornament) — not the underlying function.
We help you organise required particulars (names, titles, translations, supporting documents) and coordinate filings with the Intellectual Property Department processes.
